been awhile since i blogged, basiclly coz college la, so alot of work. Anyway, back to my main topic.. US Open was underway and as im typing here, it is entering day 3. Well, 2 major shocks.. Kuznetsova, US open Defending Champion, lost in the first round.. Also, the player who is deem to have the best chance to beat Roger Federer, Andy Roddick, also lost in the first round to an unknown player Gilles Muller(wat the hell!?)... so, this is a msg to ah pok, Roddick lost in the first round!! So u cant tao si anymore!!! :P.. which hopefully will help me as im in a 2 match losing streak to that bugger(arghh!!)
So, my main burning question today(i think its a question everyone in the world has) is,
how in the world can anyone beat Federer... i mean, he is nothing special(this comment is made after the expert views of ah pok and me!! :P), he volleys, lobs, serves and hits forehands and backhands like every other player in ATP, so why in the world is he so dominant?? after discussing with Pok Xian, we made a view on why is he that good... it is simple actually, he plays like normal all year long, in any surface, in any tournament he enters... that is the main reason he is almost invincible, he is able to play like normal ALL YEAR ROUND!! He is so consistent on everything he does, it makes him mistake free, which is his valueble weapon... This is further evident when he beat Roddick in Wimbledon this year, the only thing he does is drill the ball down the line to beat Roddick who is at the net, but he is able to drill the ball in the whole match almost mistake free!! so tell me ppl, how can u beat a man like him?? I analyzed major matches where he had lost, which is his defeat to Marat Safin in the Australian Open and defeat to Rafael Nadal in the French Open, and i have a few suggestions on how to beat Roger Federer:
1. Safin kept the ball low in the match against Federer, forcing Federer to hit alot of top spin forehands, which safin will then come up to the net and volleys it for a winner... sounds simple ppl?? it is darn difficult to hit a low ball when Federer is so consistent in his strokes, therefore a slice of fortune is needed(something like hitting the tape and the ball bounce back into the court)... plus, u need alot of control to hit those low balls... also, safin took alot of chances in going for the lines, and he also wasted 7 match points!! (all this points out that u need alot of luck to beat Federer!! even if u are skillful!!)
2. In the French Open, which is Clay, ball tends to be slower and bounces up higher, which works very well to Rafael Nadal's game, Top Spin and more Top Spin on the ball.. it is pretty insane where his ball actually hits the service line area and bounces all the way back to the base line, amazing huh!!.. anyway, Federer found his top spin ball very hard to contain as the ball bounces high, therefore he is unable to attack the ball as often as he would like... of coz, the fact that Rafael Nadal is a left hand player also means he would have to hit more high backhands than normal... high backhands are difficult to execute and even harder to attack...
Those 2 tips are my analysis about how Federer lost to them, which might serve some pointers to how to beat Roger Federer... Of coz, i cant do what i juz said, that's y im still playing for Sunway University College and not competing in ATP!! :P
Anyway, are u guys bored edi when u reach this part?? i hope not, even though this post would serve some good to those who are interested in tennis.. so, have a good week everyone and keep watching US Open!!
